As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 128,710. 78 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 3,948. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 542. 1,155 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 251 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 237 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.
In Greece, West Attica Region is under strict lockdown, due to the unexpectedly increased Covid-19 cases. The President of Hellenic Medical Association, Mr. Eksadaktilos said that stricter measures might expand to other regions like Kozani, in case of no improvement.
American Scientists have announced that Covid-19 virus might include human chromosomes in its genome, a similarity to HIV virus. If this appears to be true, it might evoke similar misdiagnoses, like false indications of infection in humans, or misleading clinical trial results, in the search for treatment.
World Health Organisation has announced an expedition to detect the origins of Covid-19 in China. The team of scientists will travel to Beijing this January.
Research conducted by scientists from the University of Michigan, led by Dr Hayley Prescott, announced that 1 out of 7 coronovirus patients who got discharged from hospital treatment, remained sick or died in the next 10 days. The research is based on data from the first wave of Covid-19 in the first quarter of 2020, when there were limited treatment methods.
The FDA has approved the vaccine produced by Moderna. The distribution in the US is likely to begin in the weekend.
Mr. Hens Span, minister of Health in Germany said that the return to normality will be gradual beginning in Summer 2021. He also stressed that protection measures should be maintained even after vaccination, and at least until Easter 2021.
