As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece 463,473. 9 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 12,867. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 121. 3,565 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 1,607 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 254 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.
Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias urged the Roma community on Tuesday to get vaccinated against the coronavirus during a visit to a settlement east of Athens.
“I spoke here with young people, with their families…we want to convince as many of our fellow citizens as possible about the beneficial effects of vaccination and to get vaccinated,” he said after meeting people at the settlement of Kliafa.
Kikilias was accompanying a mobile unit of the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) which conducted rapid tests in the area.
A hotel owner was arrested on the island of Zakynthos in western Greece early Tuesday morning for breaking Covid-19 rules by hosting an overcrowded party at his hotel’s premises.
According to the police, the man was detained during an inspection at his hotel.
During the search, officers also found 384 canisters of laughing gas (nitrous oxide), three hand-held canisters and a number of balloons at his possession.
Authorities slapped a fine of 2,000 euros on the owner and ordered a 7-day closure of the hall where the party was bring held. The man was led before a prosecutor on Tuesday.
There will be no extension to the measures imposed on the Aegean island of Mykonos after a rise in Covid-19 cases, Kathimerini understands.
On Saturday, the government imposed a curfew from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. and an around-the-clock ban on music in bars, cafes and restaurants. Both measures will last until July 26.
