As of the latest update by the Greek authorities yesterday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 10,317. 4 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 266. The number of patients treated in intensive care units stands at 36.

183 cases where announced yesterday in Greece, keeping the daily number of cases under 200 for a third consecutive day. 107 of the new cases were found in the Attica region.

Due to a surge in case numbers in the Cretan city of Heraclion, health officials have announced new emergency measures in hopes of curbing the spread of the virus. The measures, which started at 6 a.m. today, are expected to be in effect until the 15th of September. Residents must wear face masks in both outdoor and indoor spaces. Any gatherings made up of nine or more people, in public or in private, will be banned. In restaurants and cafes only four people are allowed at a table, unless they are close relatives, in which case six people may sit together. Gatherings such as parties, religious services, and outdoor markets will not be allowed for the duration of these special measures. Bars, restaurants, cafes, and other businesses must remain closed from midnight until 7 a.m. the next morning.

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority on Monday announced the extension of current flight restrictions between Greece and several countries, in the context of safeguarding public health against the coronavirus.

Thus, extended to midnight September 15 is the following set of standing restrictions:

– Flights to-and-from Greece and Turkey and all flights to-and-from Greece and Catalonia airports in Spain.

– All flights to-and-from Greece and Albania and North Macedonia will continue to land only at Athens International Airport.

– All passengers flying to Greece on connecting flights via Bulgaria, Romania, United Arab Emirates, Malta, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Albania and North Macedonia will only be allowed entry upon presenting valid proof of a Covid-19 negative test taken up to 72 hours prior to flying.

– No entry of non-EU citizens excepting those from Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunis, Uruguay, and the U.A.E.

– Passengers flying via Israel will only enter Greece with a Covid-19 negative test.

Regarding yesterday’s 183 cases:

  • 10 were detected during the tests carried out at Greece’s entry points
  • 107 cases were detected in the regional unit of Attica
  • 9 cases were detected in the regional unit of Thessaloniki
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Etoloakarnania
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Achaia
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Grevena
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Dodekanisa
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Zakynthos
  • 8 cases were detected in the regional unit of Imathia
  • 2 cases were detected in the regional unit of Heraclion Crete
  • 6 cases were detected in the regional unit of Ioannina
  • 3 cases were detected in the regional unit of Kavala
  • 9 cases were detected in the regional unit of Kozani
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Korynthos
  • 7 cases were detected in the regional unit of Cyclades
  • 3 cases were detected in the regional unit of Lesvos
  • 2 cases were detected in the regional unit of Pella
  • 1 case was detected in the regional unit of Florina
  • 4 cases were detected in the regional unit of Chania
  • 6 cases are under investigation
