As of the latest update by the Greek authorities yesterday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 10.757. 2 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 273. The number of patients treated in intensive care units stands at 36.

233 cases where announced yesterday in Greece, maintaining the daily number of cases above 200 for a second consecutive day. 87 of the new cases were found in the Attica region.

Moria camp on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos was placed under quarantine on Wednesday after officials confirmed the first coronavirus case in the notoriously overcrowded facility. The patient, a 40-year old refugee from Somalia, has been put in isolation, officials said. Meanwhile, a team of experts from Greece’s National Organization of Public Health (EODY) were trying to trace the people he had contacted.

Health authorities were on alert on Wednesday after tests revealed another coronavirus outbreak at a retirement home, this time a facility in Maroussi, a north suburb of Athens, where 18 residents tested positive for the virus. All 18 residents were hospitalized for treatment while health officials were to conduct further tests on those who have been in contact with them.

Scotland said it would impose a 14-day quarantine on all arrivals from Greece starting on Thursday because Covid-19 infection rates there are too high. There has been a “significant rise” in cases of coronavirus being brought into Scotland, a devolved region of the United Kingdom, from people who have been to Greece, the Scottish government said on Tuesday.

Authorities have shut down two beach bars on the popular holiday island of Mykonos after at least 10 staff members tested positive for coronavirus. The decision to temporarily suspend the operation of Nammos and Scorpios on Paraga beach until Friday was announced by the Secretary General of Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou following the results of tests conducted over the weekend.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has lauded the municipal authority of Athens and other organizations active in the city for their response to the coronavirus pandemic and for taking initiatives to protect the vulnerable. According to WHO’s report, published on its website on August 31, in recognizing and addressing the needs of marginalized groups during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the city of Athens is promoting health equity and building a more just city.
