Update – 05/01/2021

As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 140,526. 54 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 5,011. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 407. 427 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 199 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 64 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.

In the UK a nation-wide lockdown, 6 weeks at least, was imposed yesterday to fight the spread of Covid-19 and its newest mutation.

The new type of Covid-19 is prominent among young children, as research has shown, implemented by Dr ILias Mosialos, professor of politics of health in LSE university. The spread in youngsters has possibly occurred due to the operation of schools even during the national lockdown.

There were proposals to change the number and quantity of the vaccine doses, in order to administer it to more citizens. The FDA has warned not to proceed with any trials or changes in the vaccination process, as it is possible to significantly harm people, and to undermine the general system of health.

On Monday 11th of January, Greek kindergartens and elementary schools will be reopening, with several protection measures in operation. In essence, there will be staggered arrival times and multiple entrances and exits, while teachers can apply for free covid-19 tests before returning to class.

Businesses are suffering losses due to multiple lockdowns imposed during the past year. After the unexpected announcement on January 2nd that the market is temporary closed again, business owners are expressing their extreme anger and disapproval of the government’s plan. As the spread of Covid-19 is not significant with businesses operating, even with the click away method, sellers are requesting for further funding in order to stay afloat.
