As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece 524,871. 19 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 13,138. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 226. 3,475 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 949 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 284 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.
Schools in Greece will reopen on September 13, with teachers required to present a vaccination certificate, a certificate of recovery from the disease or a negative molecular test result that will have to be presented to the schools twice a week, the Education Ministry said on Wednesday.
Students will have to present the same proof (the vaccination certificate if they are over 12 years old).
The rules will also apply to higher education professors and students. Further protocols and details, including managing educational materials and supporting students, will be released closer to the start of the academic year.
A week-long curfew aimed at stopping a rise in coronavirus unfections took effect in the region of Iraklio, Crete, on Wednesday.
The curfew applies from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., except for night workers and health emergencies, while authorities have also imposed a 24-hour ban on music at all entertainment venues, including bars and cafes.
