Update – 14/10/2020

As of the latest update by the Greek authorities on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 23,060. 6 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 462. The number of patients treated in intensive care units stands at 89. 408 new cases where announced yesterday in Greece, raising the daily number above 400. 170 of the new cases were found in the Attica region.

Wearing a face mask is now mandatory in all enclosed places of work and open-air public areas where there is crowding, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias announced yesterday, noting that the measure applies nationwide irrespective of local coronavirus transmission levels. Addressing the same briefing, Gkikas Magiorkinis, an assistant professor of epidemiology at Athens University, said that October would be a difficult month due to dropping temperatures which might lead to a spike in cases. Apart from Attica, authorities are concerned about Kozani and Ioannina, in the country’s north and northwest, where outbreaks have been reported.

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority announced that Greece is extending all announced travel restrictions until Sunday, October 25, as part of the Greek government’s efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country. The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority also informed that the mandatory submission of the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) by all passengers of international flights to Greece, has been extended until October 25.

Greeks appear to be less optimistic about the future with regard to the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, are experiencing uncertainty and appear to have lost much of their trust in authorities, according to a new study released this week by research firm diaNEOsis. Conducted last month by Metron Analysis on a sample of 1,257 people aged 17 or older, the study found that only one in three believe life will return to normal any time soon, with the majority of Greeks (73 percent) expecting harder days ahead.
