As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 147,283. 33 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 5,387. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 328. 599 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 228 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 69 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.
According to health experts, the expectation of a rise in Covid-19 cases post- holiday season, has not yet been met.
President of the US, Joe Biden declared a $1,9 trillion funding to boost the economy. It will support people and businesses suffering huge financial losses from the pandemic. Although the act will burden the country fiscally, it is considered a worthy “investment” in the long run.
Banks in Greece, that have managed to lower the percentage of red loans, while having improved their liquidity, are planning to financially support Greece’s economy. Bank officials are positive that the effects of the 2008 economic crisis will have completely subsided in 2 years from now. Banks are prepared to provide more than 20 billion euros in loans.
Today, the opening of the market with the click away method, will be decided. Officials are hesitant as they say that might result in a rise of detected covid-19 cases. However, the economy will not be able to cope with further lockdowns.

If a covid-19 vaccination certificate is introduced among EU countries, it will not be mandatory for travelers to Greece, according to minister of Tourism Haris Theoharis. Other methods of testing for tourists, will be implemented such as rapid tests. The certificate will only save time and resources.
The vaccine of Johnson& Johnson will likely seek approval from the EU, in February.
