As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece 3,216,256. 57 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 28,406. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 334. 9,308 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 3,848 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 1,030 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.

Greek health authorities announced 9,308 new cases of Covid-19 and 57 virus-related deaths during their daily briefing on Thursday. The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) also stated that there are currently 334 intubated patients being treated in Intensive Care Units, down from 345 on Wednesday.

The new cases were identified from a total of 202,404 tests, a positivity rate of 4.60%.

Attica, Greece’s most populous region, continues to report the highest number of cases with 3,848, while the northern port city of Thessaloniki registered 1,030.

The total reported cases of Covid-19 in Greece since the start of the pandemic rose to 3,216,256, with a total of 28,406 virus-related deaths over the same period.

People over 60 years or age who were slapped with a fine for not getting the mandated Covid-19 vaccinate may avoid paying it if they get the jab now, Health Minister Thanos Plevris said on Thursday.

“There is a thought, in case those who have already been fined are vaccinated, [for the fine] to be erased,” he told broadcaster ANT1, adding that the issue is still under discussion.

Greece is set to experience a summer reminiscent of the pre-Covid era as no certificates or tests will be required for access to shops and general activities while mask use will be only required in very specific places as of June 1.

More specifically, the obligation to present certificates of vaccination or disease recovery or a negative test for access to indoor or outdoor areas is to be lifted between May 1 and August 31.

Plevris said on Wednesday that the decision to ease restrictions was “based on the epidemiological data and suggestions from experts.”

Most children in Greece were emotionally impacted by the lockdown last year, according to a study titled “The effects of Covid-19 Restrictive Measures on the Rights of the Child” by Dr Antonios Kouroutakis, assistant professor at the IE University in Madrid.

The study was conducted under the auspices of the Ombudsman in collaboration with the UNICEF Greece Country Office and with the coordination of the Assistant Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child.

It found 87.2% of parents/guardians noticed their children were more anxious, with 42.2% experiencing emotional transitions. Moreover, 90.6% of teens had issues with remote learning, especially the lack of a good internet connection (53.1%), the course not being conducted in an interesting way (51.5%), problems on the educational platform (48.4%), and inability to concentrate (45.8%).

The research drew on questionnaires distributed electronically to children, parents, teachers and others.
