As of the latest update by the Greek authorities on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 26,469. 8 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 528. The number of patients treated in intensive care units stands at 87. 667 new cases where announced yesterday in Greece, raising the daily number above 600. 250 of the new cases were found in the Attica region.

Greece recorded a new daily record of coronavirus cases yesterday, topping the 600 mark for the first time. Younger people are accounting for a majority of the new infections, according to the health authorities. “The pandemic is showing clear signs that it is steadily spreading,” said epidemiologist Gikas Magiorkinis, adding that people in the age group of 18 to 39 years old made up some 60% to 70% of the new infections. He said the pandemic was spreading increasingly in the northern part of the country and urged young people to comply with mask-wearing and social distancing measures.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has revoked a decision to gradually allow a limited number of fans back into soccer stadiums saying it would send “the wrong message” at a time when the public is being urged to practice social distancing and observe safety protocols amid a spike in coronavirus infections. Mitsotakis said the decision took “into account that there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases all over Europe.”

A group of 24 French students were in quarantine at a hotel in Piraeus on Tuesday after the woman accompanying them on a visit to Santorini tested positive for the coronavirus. Following the return of the Blue Star Delos to Piraeus late on Monday, the woman and students traveled to Athens international airport. The woman tested positive for a Covid-19 test, prompting the decision to return her and the students to Piraeus where they have been put up at a quarantine hotel in line with the instructions of the National Organization for Public Health.
