As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 131,072. 70 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 4,172. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 515. 588 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 172 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 100 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.

A new mutation of Covid-19 virus was detected in Gr. Britain and has already been spread through Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands and Australia, among others. Many countries suspend flights and other transportation means, departing from and arriving in Gr. Britain. Passengers travelling from Gr. Britain to Greece, will be in a 7 day quarantine.

Today, the EMA is expected to approve the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccination is likely to begin on Sunday, 27/12. Moderna vaccine has been approved by the FDA.

Research has shown that 2 in 3 greeks are willing to receive the vaccine.

In Greece, it will be determined whether stricter measures are going to be imposed in other areas as well. So far, they are in operation in Kozani and West Attica.

Today, President of Democracy, mrs Sakellaropoulou, will meet with Prime minister, mr Mitsotakis, to discuss the vaccination process in Greece. The government is planning the slow readaptation to normality, while an injection of 7,5 billion euros, in 2021, is expected to support businesses and citizens.

Minister of Education Mrs Kerameos mentioned that regarding the beginning of vaccination throughout Greece, it is possible for schools to reopen on January the 8th.
