As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 418,548. 17 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 12,565. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 283. 209 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 94 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 21 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.

Greece has recently published all the necessary information for those wishing to obtain their COVID Vaccine Passport for travel purposes.

Greece was the first EU country to implement the COVID Vaccine Passport, having already gone through a testing phase and prepared a fully-operational online platform for it. PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis was the very first national leader to promote the idea back in January of 2021.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, it was revealed that for the passport to be issued, those obtaining it must hold a Greek identity card that contains the holder’s details in Latin characters, or a general traveling passport.

The EU Digital Passport can be obtained by Greek citizens as long as they provide proof that they meet one of the following statements:

  • They have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 with all required doses
  • They have recovered from the virus
  • They have obtained a negative COVID-19 test result

Moreover, all persons obtaining the passport need to provide their personal Taxisnet passwords and their Social Security number.

Greece has emphasized that the passport’s validity confirmation is carried out only at specific entry checkpoints through a special system developed by the EU.

Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority on Saturday issued its updated guidelines for travel into the country during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

These guidelines are in force until 6 am on Saturday, June 26. They could be further updated, as has been done numerous times.

Under the latest rules, travel into Greece without the need to quarantine on arrival is permitted only from the European Union and the Schengen area; however, the following are exempted from the ban on arrivals from third countries: Australia, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Canada, China, Israel, Kuwait, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Qatar Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States of America.

All travelers coming into Greece must submit a passenger locator form (PLF) at https://travel.gov.gr by the eve of their arrival and have one of the three following documents: an official vaccination certificate, stating that 14 days have passed since full vaccination for Covid-19; a negative PCR test (in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian) performed less than 72 hours before arrival or a negetive rapid test performed less than 48 hours before arrival; or a recovery certificate (in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian) stating that the person in question has recovered from the coronavirus in the past nine months.
