As of the latest update by the Greek authorities, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 diagnosed cases in Greece is 154,083. 32 new deaths were reported raising the total number to 5,724. The number of patients treated in intensive care units is currently 274. 858 new cases were announced yesterday in Greece. 409 of the new cases were found in the Attica region and 74 new cases in the Thessaloniki region.
Alarming health officials, a great number of Wednesday’s 858 cases were diagnosed in Attica, where 409 Covid-19 diagnoses were recorded. Attica is home to Athens, the capital and most populous city in Greece. Cases are particularly high in Athens itself — where a total of 104 cases were recorded in the center of the city. In the city’s western and northern suburbs, 63 and 76 cases were diagnosed respectively on Wednesday.
In Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, a total of 74 cases were identified in the last 24 hours.
Today, Thursday, epidemiologists in Greece will discuss the recent findings of Covid-19 cases. Attica is a red zone with almost half detected cases. Officials might have to impose a strict lockdown with retail returning to the click away method. The rise in the number of covid-19 patients will possibly put off the reopening of High schools, until further notice.
On Friday Greek officials are presenting their final decision on whether high schools are going to be reopened, except those institutions in “red” regions (high risk).
