  • On Thursday (May 7th), Russia recorded 11,231 new cases of coronavirus in 84 Russian regions, raising the official number of positive results to 177,160, with 1625 dead. 48,7% of infected Russians had no clinical symptoms of the disease. The majority of new COVID-19 cases (6,703) were registered in Moscow, bringing the total number of Moscovites with confirmed COVID-19 to 92,676. In the meantime, a total of 23,803 Russian patients are known to have recovered from coronavirus. Russia is now the fifth most-affected country in terms of infections.
  • As of May 6th, approximately 4.8 million tests for coronavirus (COVID-19) were conducted in Russia. The testing has increased significantly since the end of March 2020, as have the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. In a meantime, in Moscow, the number of tests performed for coronavirus have reached one million, as reported by the capital’s Deputy Mayor for Social Development, Anastasia Rakova, on Wednesday, May 6th.
  • On Wednesday, May 6th, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported plans to open industrial enterprises and construction facilities in Moscow after May 12th. “I support and believe that plans to open a considerable number of enterprises, related to industry and construction in the first instance, are absolutely justified,” the head of state said, responding to the proposal of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The self-isolation conditions in the city will not be lifted on May 12th, he added.
  • On Wednesday, May 6th, Anna Popova, the Head of Russia’s public health authority, Rospotrebnadzor, presented a three-step plan for the gradual easing of quarantine restrictions. The first step will allow people to take part in outdoor sports. The second stage will allow families to go for walks, some businesses to reopen (including some “public eateries”), and classes to resume at educational institutions. The third step will allow all stores and restaurants to open their doors. However, regional leaders will be responsible for making decisions about lifting restrictions based on several indicators, including the number of coronavirus cases in the region, the capacity of local hospitals, and the extent of local testing. 
  • On Sunday, May 3rd, the official representative of Aeroflot Airlines, Yulia Spivakova, said that international flights may be resumed in mid-summer. “It’s still difficult to name the exact dates, but if you look at optimistic forecasts, the international operations may begin in mid-summer,” she said. “For now, we can say for sure that we will maintain enhanced disinfection of aircraft, while such a need remains,” Spivakova added.
  • On Wednesday, May 6th, – Intourist tour operator launched a charter programme to Anapa Black Sea resort starting from July, 1st 2020. Charter flights will operate from Moscow, Kazan, Ufa and Ekaterinburg.
